Part of audio engineering heritage, the introduction of the PreSonus Fat Channel over a decade ago was an instant hit. With a fully variable high pass filter, a noise gate, a musical compressor based on PreSonus’ famed ACP88, a four-band parametric EQ, and a limiter to round it all out, the Fat Channel gave StudioLive users all the tools they needed to craft the perfect mix.
After a decade worth of knowledge and improvements in modelling technology, the Fat Channel XT was introduced. Boasting more detailed and accurate modelling and flexibility than ever before. Fully integrable with PreSonus StudioLive Series III mixers, Studio One DAW and now in AU, VST3 and AAX formats to use in your DAW of choice, you can harness the creative powerhouse in your workflow to create better mixes faster than ever.
With several unique compressors and EQ modules to place within your channel strip, the Fat Channel XT lets you customise your signal path for your track or mix. The compressor module offers three distinct units, each comprised of different virtual circuitry, letting you pick the right compressor for your audio source. Included is the 'Standard' model, a flexible and modern compressor with a clean and Hi-Fi sound. This is ideal for modern pop productions that don't require colouration and instead need a transparent sound that gels with your source tone perfectly. Next is the 'Tube' model. An Opto compressor module that's perfect for instruments with little transient response such as vocals or strummed acoustic guitar. Lastly, A FET-style compressor is a gritty and characterful module, perfect for adding an aggressive edge to your drum room sound, electric and bass guitars.
Not only are several compressor modules included, Fat Channel XT includes three EQ models. Each imprinting a sonic signature to your audio tracks, the flexibility on display is ideal for modern producers and mixing engineers working with several different styles and genres. Much like the Standard compressor, the 'Standard' EQ is a clean, polished and modern graphic EQ with a clean and hi-fi sound. Ideal for surgical cuts or boosts with little to no colouration, this is a great way to attack unwanted resonances or make general boosts and cuts to bias your frequency response in a certain way. A 'Passive' EQ model accurately delivers the tone of one of the world's most sought-after hardware units. Delivering a rich and thick sound, this is ideal for adding character to lead vocals or piano. Lastly, a 'Vintage' model simply makes everything sound better. Musically chosen EQ frequencies deliver reliable tonal magic.
Meticulous recreated from original analog circuits, the units built into the Channel XT are indistinguishable from the hardware counterparts. Using state of the art State Space Modelling Technology, the Channel XT plug-ins deliver the exact nuance, sonic character and response as the originals. A component-level modelling process, the State Space Modelling measures every signal part of the signal flow from capacitors, resistors, diodes and even nonlinear circuitry elements to authentically deliver the behaviour of the unit, including any unwanted interpolation and nonlinearities between parameters.
