Key Features
The Intellijel Planar is a vector joystick / quad panner module that will definitely provide you with hours of entertainment. The Plannar features a 360 degrees joystick that can be used for a number of options such as vector mixing or quad panning and can be moved continuously making this module perfect for a live performance. By being able to modify the CV sources simultaneously you can easily produce complex sounds depending on what source is patched into your inputs. The joystick is there to give you more accurate control of the amount for each CV source. As an added feature Intellijel have been kind enough to provide you with two faceplates for the Planer making the design reversible leaving you to position the joystick to your preferred position.

The Intellijel Planar makes vector mixing a breeze due to its fitted joystick. You can fit up to four sources into inputs A, B, C and D, and rotate the joystick to any position on the module to create a mix. When positioned into a corner you will isolate that specific source or you can position it towards the middle creating a blend of all four of the sources. The joystick can pivot and rotate fully on its base around the whole axis enabling you to take complete control over your mixing.
As well as its ability to control mixing, the Planar also enables quad panning. This can be done by plugging a single source into input A and then steering in to outputs A, B, C and D. Additionally, stereo panning is possible by just using a pair of outputs.
Whilst being able to control mixing and panning, the Intellijel Planar features a sense gate output, which is a slew detector. What this means is that the gate is only active once you move the joystick so if the joystick is static no output mix comes through but you can generate the gate by moving it. The Planar a very handy device for driving envelopes/VCAs to coordinate so the output mix is only heard/used when moved.
The creative design of the module means that you are able to reverse the faceplate and have the joystick at the bottom as well as the top. The Planar comes with two faceplates leaving you with the choice to change the design to whatever you prefer. A video tutorial can be found above showing you how this can be done.
Another useful element of the Planar is that the module accepts X and Y inputs. When used with out of phase LFO sources interesting swirling/circular patterns can be created. If you coordinate with a CV recorder you can then record the modulation from the X and Y outputs and then turn the joystick off and playback the modulation into the X and Y input allowing you to recreate a complex quad panning or vector mixing jam.
