The Hexinverter Red Dragon (12HP) is a versatile 4-pole analog filter, that uses soviet-era topology and circuitry, generating a unique tone and character. At the heart of the Red Dragon module is the Russian filter core, designed by using the sample principles at Russian electronics designers form the 1980’s. Instead of using capacitors, the internal properties of the amplifier chop are modulated by the unique ‘programming’ input. It results in colourful distortions and a unique character of its own. The 24dB/oct resonant low-pass filter can be morphed between the two poles, allowing you to change the slope on the fly. The resonance is voltage controlled and capable of self-oscillation. It also features a clipping switch designed to rein in resonance feedback at higher settings, resulting in a varied tone. The integrated VCA features a disable switch, and comes after the filter, eliminating the need for a dedicated VCA module. The signal and CV levels of the filter have been optimised for Eurorack modular systems providing you with+/-5V CV, 10Vpp+ audio.
One of the most unique characteristics of the Red Dragon Filter Module is the ability to morph between 6dB and 24dB filter slope settings. You can even set the filter in-between the two poles for a unique tone. The two settings are ideal for a range of applications, with the 24dB excelling with basslines, kick drums and other bass-orientated sounds. The brighter 6dB filter slop is ideal for higher-frequency signals such as synth leads. The morphing capabilities are voltage controlled, ideal for experimentation when modulated. It boasts a dual colour LED indicated the morph position as well as the VCA level.
The integrated filter core overdrive, is located at the input stage, providing you with the means to vary your signals for added versatility. You can vary your signal’s level up to full saturation, giving you a crisp, and more extreme sounding filter. This eliminates the need to boost the signal level before filtering, providing you with that classic overdriven sound. It also provides voltage control of the input drive, allowing you to modulate the saturation of the filter. This is ideal for velocity modulation, resulting in acidic-style basslines and more.
