The Z-DSP NS is an open-source, cartridge-based, digital sound processing and generating platform for your modular synthesiser. Although the Z-DSP can't compete with processing power found on on personal computer, it does however offer direct control of the DSP hardware, and also offers a range of unique features for manipulating digital effects. You can bend, stretch, deform, and distort digital audio with your modules.
The Z-DSP provides voltage-controllable parameters, voltage-controlled wet/dry mix, manual and sequential program switching, and a pair of voltage-controllable feedback loop paths that have exposed patch points, allowing you to insert the rest of your modular into the DSP process for creative sound design. The module lets you dig deep and go far beyond normal processing, breaking the rules and allowing you to patch straight into the heart of the DSP chip.
The Z-DSP module comes with the Dragonfly Delay cartridge which contains 8 different delay programs. There are a number of different cartridges sold separately that offer different effects. The module has no programs in it, so it needs these cartridges to load programs. The Dragonfly features 8 voltage-controlled, time-based delay effects, offering advanced delay programs with added filters and additional taps. Featuring up to 1000ms of delay time and feedback control on each program, the Dragonfly cartridge is ideal for creating deep, stereophonic, washed out spaces. Additionally, you can use the feedback loop of the Z-DSP to feedback through other modules such as filters to further process and enhance he Dragonfly repeats.
The Halls of Valhalla cartridge contains 8 original reverb algorithms. These have been custom designed for the Z-DSP and Eurorack environment. It has been made to create unreal spaces that range from subtle to bombastic, light to dark, with a lushness that turns simple input sounds into rich orchestral washes.
