The sound editor

The new Melodyne 5 sound editor gives you a new approach to sound design, useful for everything from subtle optimisation of recorded audio to tone enhancements and over-hauled manipulations of sound. The Sound Editor gives you direct access to every nuance of the audio, allowing you to shape and manipulate your sound to achieve the tone and effect you want. This tool gives you maximum control over your sound letting you increase the levels of individual harmonics or reshaping the spectrum with envelopes and macro parameters, you can also transfer the characteristics of one track to another making editing a breeze. You can affect your audio to the point you can create a totally different sound, in-turn using Melodyne as a loose-audio based synthesizer.

DNA (Direct Note Access)

One of the major updates in Melodyne 4 is the ability to use Celemony's patented DNA (Direct Note Access) technology on an unlimited amount of tracks. Direct Note Access is a technology that allows you to manipulate an audio's pitch whilst retaining the tone of the original sound. This has been used to no-end by Melodyne users as an extremely accurate pitch-corrector that lets you edit individual parts of the sound.

This is ideal for vocalists as it helps to correct and articulate the pitch of vocals, letting you edit your vocals word-by-word to achieve the correct pitch you are looking for. Thanks to Multitrack Note Editing, DNA is now more versatile than ever, giving you the ability to display a selection of track simultaneously to edit notes side-by-side. This added convenience of multitrack note editing means your workflow will increase, by making a complex process simpler and user friendly.

Tempo detection

Melodyne 4 detects tempos and tempo fluctuations in record music with utter reliability. This is ideal for musicians and technicians alike as it gives you the ability to edit tempos even with freely recorded music (not recorded to a metronome). The Tempo Editor allows the 'breathing' tempo of on live recording to be carried over to another, this is a highly useful tool for live recording and demos as it gives you the ability to set an overall tempo for a set of songs or audio clips. This lets you rein in any runaway tempos that are normally associated with live recordings or demo tracks. Melodyne 4 also features improved algorithms giving you an intuitive new interface and a range of improvements in affecting the details of recorded audio.
