The CVP-909 is designed for players who want more than a traditional solo piano experience. Its 675 accompaniment styles provide full arrangements that follow the chords and timing of your performance, surrounding you with drums, bass, and supporting instruments that respond as you play. Styles cover a broad musical range, making it easy to move between big band, jazz, organ, pop, orchestral, and traditional repertoire without rebuilding your setup from scratch.
Each style offers three introductions, four main variations, four fills, a break, and three endings, so you can shape an arrangement as naturally as a bandleader. Start simply, build towards a fuller section, insert fills between phrases, or finish with a prepared ending. The Chord Looper can repeat a progression while you focus on melody, improvisation, or registration changes, while the One Touch setting recalls four suitable sound combinations for every style. This turns the CVP-909 into a responsive performance partner rather than simply a player of fixed backing tracks.
With 1,605 preset voices, 58 Drum and SFX Kits, and 480 XG Voices, the CVP-909 gives you a substantial range of sounds for arranging and performance. Alongside acoustic and electric pianos, you can call on organs, brass, woodwind, strings, guitars, synths, percussion, and orchestral instruments. Super Articulation and Super Articulation2 Voices add instrument-specific details to your playing, helping solo sounds respond with more convincing phrasing and character.
You can layer voices for fuller textures, divide the keyboard into separate zones, or edit sounds to suit your preferred style. A wide effects section includes reverb, chorus, compression, equalisation, insertion effects, variation effects, and vocal harmony, giving you detailed control over the final arrangement. Eight registration buttons let you store complete performance setups, while registration sequences and up to 2,500 playlist records help organise larger repertoires. Whether you are moving between songs at home or preparing a full entertainment set, your sounds, styles, tempos, and supporting settings remain ready to recall.
The 9" colour touchscreen gives you a clear view of voices, styles, scores, lyrics, and performance settings, while dedicated panel buttons provide the direct, tactile control many experienced performers prefer. You can make changes without relying on a separate device, keeping your attention on the keyboard and your arrangement. Score, lyric, and text displays are built in, and display output is available through a suitable USB adapter when a larger external view is needed.
A microphone input lets you sing through the CVP-909, with vocal harmony available to add supporting parts. Song functions include time stretching, pitch shifting, and vocal cancellation, while the 16-track MIDI recorder allows detailed arrangement work. Performances can also be recorded and played back in WAV or MP3 format through USB. Smart Pianist remains available as a useful companion for compatible smart devices, offering additional access to sounds, settings, scores, tempo adjustment, and practice tools. Guide Lights show the keys to play next, while lesson functions can wait for the correct note, making the instrument approachable for other family members without shifting the focus away from its physical controls and built-in screen.
The CVP-909 combines its extensive entertainment features with the playing feel and refined appearance expected from a premium Clavinova. Its polished ebony cabinet creates an impressive centrepiece in the home or performance space, while the GrandTouch keyboard provides wooden white keys, counterweights, and 88-key Linear Graded Hammers. These features support controlled pianissimo, powerful chords, and rapid passages with a balanced response across the keyboard. GrandTouch pedals with GP Response Damper add progressive resistance beneath your foot, helping pedalling feel more closely connected to an acoustic grand.
Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial samples provide two distinct concert grand characters, supported by Virtual Resonance Modelling and Grand Expression Modelling. Together, sampling and modelling recreate the changing resonances and tonal variation produced by your touch. Dedicated binaural recordings of the CFX and Bösendorfer also create a natural playing position through headphones. Through the cabinet, a multi-speaker system with dedicated bass support, Grand Acoustic Imaging, and a Twisted Flare Port delivers clear, spacious projection. The spruce speaker cone uses pulp made from offcuts produced during Yamaha CFX soundboard construction — a thoughtful detail that helps create a more natural piano-like attack while making use of material from Yamaha's acoustic piano production.
