The New System Instruments Harmonic Shift Oscillator is an unique oscillator for your modular patches, or a beast in its own right. It is sonically similar to FM, but has a closer relationship between the parameters and the spectrum.


You'll find it is ideal for evolving drone textures or angular synth sequences. It can function well in conjunction with other modules, or you can self modulate to turn it into a soundscape generator all on its own.


Use the controls to creat brighter or darker sounds; control the character of the spectrum; tune the fundamental frequency and more. And the two outputs, as well as being useful for stereo, are phase rotated, so have different reactions to distortion. Harmonic Shift Oscillator creates wavescapes you will find yourself walking for hours on end.

Features

  • An all analog oscillator that provides harmonic and inharmonic spectra
  • Use a range of separate controls with CV control for all parameters
  • Capability for self modulation which allows the HSO to create evolving soundscapes all on its own
  • Spacing between harmonies is controlled by harmonic stride, which can also be viewed as its spectral character
  • Set to integer values, this will create a more traditional synth sound; set to non integer values it will create a more inharmonic sound
  • Glide between dark and bright sounds using the harmonic level control
  • The level of the angular frequency sets the tuning of the fundamental frequency
  • There are two outputs, each set a quarter turn out phase from each other, so have different characters when they distort
  • Alternatively, use the two outputs for stereo straight from the module
