The Fuzz Factory 7

Zvex's Fuzz Factory 7 is an updated version of the flag ship fuzz factory. The fuzz factory 7 is designed with a 9 way rotary, giving the pedal an amazing bottom end as well as thin, reedy fuzzes. This setup allows the pedal to oscillate at much lower registers as well as higher ones. The fuzz works equally well with both guitar and bass signals. There is also an additional stomp switch with associated tone control, operating the same way as the one on your guitar. When activated, the stomp switch allows you to roll off the high end of the fuzz sound so you can mellow out the tone. Controls are arranged around two rare 1956 Amperex black glass transistors, which are illuminated by LEDs when the pedal is engaged.

Controls

  • Fat: This is a nine-position rotary switch that controls the internal tone of the fuzz, getting fatter and subbier to the left and thinner and reedier to the right. This switch has the ability to change the oscillation range of the pedal too, when the other knobs are set to an oscillating or squealing tone. The original fuzz factory setting can be found around the middle.

  • Volume: Controls the output volume of the pedal.

  • Gate: Provides a squelching noise after the end of the sustain. Turning to the right eliminates squeals, hiss and buzz, stopping just as they disappear. You could either use this to tune in exact feedback pitch if you like by turning it to the left to open up the gate.

  • Comp: Adds attack characteristic when turned to the left, which gets softer to the right, and suddenly pinches tone when all the way to the right.

  • Drive: Increases distortion when used as a "normal" fuzz, and adjusts feedback pitch and tonal thickness.

  • Stab: Used to control the feedback pitch and is best dialled all the way to the right. Do not attempt to adjust this control below 2:00 unless you like your fuzz soft and squishy.

  • Tone: This knob is activated by the left stomp switch. It's a passive tone control which mellows out the high end of the Fuzz Factory 7, like a simple lo-pass filter.
