The Dallas Arbiter Rangemaster was one of the first treble booster circuits to be used by guitarists. It helped musicians push their amplifiers into increased saturation and delivered extra harmonic content and a fuller response. Brian May famously used a treble booster to provide more clarity in his multiple amp setup, and the KMA Machines Strokkur is designed to replicate these classic pedals.
The KMA Machines Strokkur pedal uses a Germanium based circuit to deliver the increased harmonic output of the original treble booster designs. It uses the same NOS AC 125 transistor as in the Rangemaster but has a RANGE control that increases the frequency response of the pedal. This control lets you choose to boost just the high frequencies or the whole tonal range. The BOOST dial is a very powerful control that can deliver up to 17dB of additional power and push your tube amp into glorious saturation with plenty of sympathetic harmonic content.
The Strokkur pedal has a 2-band EQ to craft your tone to how you require. This also provides the ability to adapt the pedal to different amps and guitars. The TREBLE dial helps to tame the high frequencies when the BOOST is fully cranked, while the BASS prevents the amp overloading by removing low frequencies; it does this without affecting the mids, giving you a very musical and controllable response.
Unlike other Germanium boosters, the Strokkur is fitted with an internal DC converter so will work with every regular 9V DC supply without fuss.
KMA Machines is a Berlin-based boutique company producing high quality hand-made FX pedals. All the pedals are constructed by hand with a rigorous attention to detail. They feature unique silk-screen designs and premium components such as custom double-sided PCBs and virtually indestructible power-coated aluminium enclosures. The company has a strong interest in both modern and vintage pedals, and began life producing custom made units. Since 2013, they have gained popularity with a wide range of guitarists and bassists.
