Martin’s aim is to produce guitars to last a lifetime, whether that be in live, studio, or home use. The 000-42 Authentic is amongst the most eligible to be this instrument. The Adirondack top Martin have equipped it with is now less common, but was a common wood for quality instruments of the 1930s and 1940s. It has a clear tone, with strong volume. Madagascan Rosewood on the back and sides gives a deep, bold tone with a large resonance. The Ebony fingerboard and bridge bring defined notes, as well as being a stunning dark colour. Martin have committed to producing the finest woods that accurately represent the guitar as it was in 1939.
Martin’s new Vintage Tone System (VTS) takes new woods back to their roots. It’s common knowledge that old guitars’ wood sounds warmer, more resonant, and have an all round better sound. Using the torrefaction method, the wood begins to effectively ‘age’ at a high heat, so Martin have been able to give woods a tone replicating the sound of a guitar far older. By refining this method, Martin have been able to take their guitars back to a specific decade, whilst retaining the strength and reliability of a brand new product.
