The JEM77 features a basswood body which is renowned for its light weight and tonal versatility. It will be comfortable when used for long gigs and practice sessions, while the tonal properties will enable all manner of tones, revealing every nuance in your playing.
The neck is crafted from 5pc maple/walnut for strength and stability, along with a bright tone and excellent sustain. The fingerboard is rosewood which gives a snappy response.
The guitar is finished in a signature Floral Pattern design and features Steve Vai's signature Tree of Life fingerboard inlay, that has been an unmissable part of the JEM design for many decades.
The JEM77 is loaded with an extremely versatile HSH pickup combination which provides the full balance between humbucking, single coil and combined pickup tones. The neck position DiMarzio Evolution humbucker is designed to "kick butt and produce serious scream" - DiMarzio. It creates a fat, punchy and loud sound for a musical warmth and liquid-smooth sustain in lead playing. It is capable of cutting through any mix, whether on stage or in the studio.
The DiMarzio Evo 2 bridge humbucker builds on the Evolution's power but provides increased headroom for a more complex response with enhance dynamics. This allows you to roll back the guitar volume to create a cleaner tone. The DiMarzio Evolution middle-position single coil creates a nuanced sound that perfectly balances the high output neck and bridge humbuckers.
These pickups are all wired with a 5-way switch which enables individual pickup tones and combined sounds. Between these 5 positions, the JEM77 has an exceptional tonal diversity and can cover almost any sound or style. This is the perfect configuration for Steve Vai, who really does utilise the guitar to its full potential.
The JEM77 is focussed on an effortless playing experience. The neck features a comfortable JEM profile that sits comfortably in the hand. The Tilt-Neck joint, in combination with the deep lower horn cutaway, enables easy top-fret access for complex soloing at the "dusty end" of the neck.
The fingerboard has a modern 430mm radius for balance across all 6 strings, while the 24 frets feature the Prestige Fret-Edge Treatment for an incredibly smooth playing feel.
The frets are 6105 size - they are narrow yet tall, giving you a lot of finger contact with the strings alongside accurate intonation. The top four frets are scalloped (the wood is filed down between the frets) giving you even more control over the strings, exactly where you need it - where the frets are at their smallest gap-size.
An Edge double locking tremolo bridge adds the final professional touch to this guitar and will enable you to perform the same whammy bar antics that Steve Vai is known for; safe in the knowledge that your strings will return to pitch accurately after use.
