More than a simple upgrade

Three years after its initial release, the very first Microtube amp gets an upgrade. And not just a few adjustments here and there, but a beautiful reorganising of the Darkglass vision: putting a focus on adaptability and ease of use.

Functional, clean, and powerful

900w gets enormously loud – which is comforting. Headroom is in abundance; whatever effect pedals you throw at this amp are going to be taken with ease. The perfect small unit, scraping with amps twice its size with a tonne of features.

Getting rid of the need for huge rigs

Amps were big for a reason. They house tubes, massive transformers, and had to be coupled with big cabinets to get the best sound. There isn’t really any need for it anymore, I mean look at what you have on offer instead. The 900 v2 is no longer than a school ruler and no taller than a house brick. Yet, it sounds incredible. Loaded with useful features, the 900v2 shot way ahead of their initial target.

Known as a pedal company first, Darkglass became famous for their beautiful bass effects - particularly drive units. So, it really makes sense that they built up the whole drive section around the B3K and the Vintage Microtubes circuits. Marrying clarity with tonal destruction, the ‘blend’ and ‘drive’ knob let you explore everything from the extreme to everything in-between.

How is this better than V1?

Well, it’s a lot better! The 900 v2 sails far away from its predecessor, becoming a much more fluid unit. With ample connectivity options, this can be used from silent practising and recording to rendering you nearly deaf when running at full tilt through a PA or cab.

Also, to satisfy the ‘tweakers’ amongst you, add your own IRs (impulse responses), save presets and test new tones out with the FREE Microtubes software suite. It’s simple and easy to use and a great addition to this amp.

The EQ got an overhaul, it is now much quieter – making those adjustments even cleaner than before.

So, what about standard stage use?

This is where options really come into it. You can plug directly from this into a P.A, utilising the cabinet emulation or you can get ridiculous…

…integrating external preamps, power amps, and two cabinets into this unit. Do you play a lot live? Are you more of a recording artist? These are rhetorical questions – it excels, regardless of application.

What does this new face lift get you?

You end up with a user-friendly unit. Clear and easy to read, you won’t struggle to get whatever tones you need out of it. So, the very fact there is so much more going on in this little box, makes the UX even more impressive. Giving you anything from a clean, deep bass to an ear-ripping drive with a few, simple tweaks.

Why do I need to spend money on this?

Because it is as useful in the studio as it is live. It reduces the need for so much extra equipment which may not give you better results - you don’t even need a cab, save your back, save your wallet.
