About Sonor

Founded in 1875, Sonor started manufacturing military drums, from there they developed into making the masterpieces you see today packed full of almost 150 years of experience. The first Sonor drum kit was made in 1952 and today's various Sonor series have captured the very essence of this. Sonor continues to re-introduce analogue sounds into a digital world keeping up with high demands of durability, and reliability as well as standing out with some magnificent and unique finishes.

Modern Engineering Meets Vintage Aesthetics

Sonor's state-of-the-art Teardrop lugs piece together every tone and resonance fired from the beechwood shells with a classic aesthetic included. To achieve this, Sonor has gone to great lengths to develop their Cross Lamination Tension Free design which layers each ply of beechwood at a 90-degree angle to form a perfectly rounded shell that is tension-free. Sonor has also developed their Optimum Shell Measurement system which utilizes slightly undersized shell diameters to give the drum headroom to float freely allowing for unrestricted contact between the drum head and bearing edge.

Innovative Shell Design

Sonor's Vintage series shells are made with nine plies of beechwood for a 6mm total thickness. This allows for a precise and warm tone with a penetrating, consistent volume. This ties in perfectly with the rounded bearing edges which deliver a warm tone with a resounding deep resonance. The rounded edge also maximises contact between the shell and the drumhead, leaving room for the head to be unrestricted but still under precise tension.
